Curb Appeal and Exterior Design Trends

Spring is here, and with it comes renewed focus on first impressions. At Embarq Signature Homes, we’re seeing strong interest from buyers who not only care about what’s inside the home, but just as importantly—how it presents from the street. Curb appeal continues to be a major driver in buyer perception, especially in the custom home space where personalization and detail set the tone from the start.

What’s Trending in Custom Home Exteriors?

Elevated, Natural Palettes

One of the strongest trends we’re seeing is a shift toward warm, grounded exterior color schemes. Earthy neutrals, soft whites, muted taupes, and deep charcoal accents are replacing high-contrast combinations. These palettes pair beautifully with natural materials and help homes feel timeless rather than trend-driven.

Mixed Materials for Depth & Character

Designs are leaning heavily into texture. Combinations like stone with vertical siding, mixed-width lap siding, and wood accents (or wood-look alternatives) are creating more visual depth and architectural interest. Even small material contrasts around entryways or gables are making a noticeable impact.

Statement Front Entries

Front doors and entryways are becoming focal points in their own right. Oversized doors, glass inserts, and bold but refined colors are being used to create a strong first impression. Covered entries are also being designed with more intention—framing the entry rather than simply sheltering it.

Clean Landscaping with Layered Greenery

Spring curb appeal is increasingly defined by intentional landscaping rather than density. We’re seeing layered plantings with clean edging, ornamental grasses, and a balance of structure and softness. The goal is a finished look that still feels natural and easy to maintain.

Lighting as a Design Feature

Exterior lighting continues to evolve beyond function. Warm, integrated lighting, such as sconces, uplighting on architectural features, and subtle path lighting, enhances the home’s exterior character and extends visual appeal into the evening hours.

As custom home buyers continue to prioritize personalization, these exterior design choices are playing a key role in how homes are both marketed and experienced. Thoughtful curb appeal isn’t just an aesthetic choice—it’s an extension of the home’s overall story.

If you have buyers interested in building, these are great talking points to help them envision how intentional exterior design can elevate their future home.
